Handy Info

Here's some handy information you might find useful.  Scroll down for information about Home Learning, our Weekly Timetable and other info.

Home Learning

Home learning will begin for the students in Week 3.  Home learning will involve a Reading Challenge, encouraging students to read for 20mins each night.  It will also include spelling practice and basic facts practice. Check out our Learning Resources page for creative ways to practice these skills.  Occasionally students will bring work home that needs to be finished.  As the year progresses, I might also send home targeted homework (based on their learning goals). However, we’ll be working pretty hard in class, so home learning will directly relate to the goals the students have in class. I don’t believe in homework for homework’s sake.

Here is a copy of the homework sheet.

Weekly Planning

Swimming

Term One is the swimming term.  The pool is really warm and the weather has been great.  Please encourage students to bring their togs every day.  We have received SwimSafe training for the second year in a row.  This is really making a difference to the swim training we can give to the students.

Year of Mercy

The theme for Lent 2016 is Hear the cry of the earth and the poor.  This is the Year of Mercy.  We are encouraging students to think about how they will recognise lent this year.  As we go further into the year, we will be exploring and thinking about ways we can act in the Year of Mercy.  If you'd like to find out more, you can visit http://www.caritas.org.nz/schools/lent-schools.
